In Confuror, we are always seeking ways to contribute to the wellbeing of our planet and its inhabitants. This year, we are excited to collaborate with the Program for the Conservation of Mexican Bats (PCMM) (official website), a project dedicated to the protection and conservation of these essential mammals.

PCMM

The PCMM is working hard in three key areas to ensure the future of bats in Mexico:

  • Research: The PCMM team explores and studies the caves where bats live to understand their needs and behaviors. They investigate which species live in each cave, how they reproduce, what they eat and what their migration patterns are. This information is crucial for developing effective conservation strategies.
  • Environmental communication and education:** The PCMM is dedicated to educating local communities about the importance of bats and how they can help protect them. They organize workshops, exhibits, and educational activities so that both children and adults learn to appreciate and care for bats. By changing public perception, they are building a future in which bats are valued and protected.
  • Conservation: To ensure that bats have a safe home, PCMM works to legally protect the caves most important to these species. They develop and implement management plans in collaboration with local people and authorities, ensuring that these habitats are kept free from vandalism and destruction.

The PCMM is not alone in its mission. They work in partnership with important institutions such as INAH, CONABIO, Disney Conservation Fund, and Bat Conservation International. These alliances strengthen their efforts, providing resources, expertise, and global reach to ensure that Mexico’s bats are effectively protected.
